This morning I plucked the orange cherry tomatoes in the photo from the limbs of Jo. Yes, those are tiny orange tomatoes. When the first ones ripened, I wondered why they weren't getting red. It's a good thing the short-term memory box of mine kicked in before the fruits dropped off their branches.
Led Zeppelin and Valerie are producing fruit, too. Barely. They're bravely keeping their tiny fruit going. I haven't been very good about remembering to water the trio, especially during the hot days. When I do water them, I don't promise that I'll be better about the task. I hate breaking promises.
The yellow fruit in the photo are Asian pears, which are from our small tree. It has produced a big crop this year because of the winter rains. I'm picking the fruit as they ripen. I wish the Mama was here to enjoy them.

I have high hopes for my tomatoes, though they aren't very perky-looking plants. We generally don't get enough heat here to grow them well. Asian Pears - what a treat from your own trees!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy with the the few that Jo is producing and whatever will yield from the other two plants. The Husband's and my plan is to go to a U-pick your own organic tomatoes farm to get bags full, which I'll freeze and use during the winter.
DeleteYou have a pear tree, oh man that's so excellent. My grandpa had one in our backyard in the sixties and pears and mulberries were my fav snacks. Clever title. How are the orange cherry tomatoes, bet they're better than candy.

ReplyDeleteWe had 3 days of summer weather last month ... the seedlings are hoping for another three this month. Everyone is so behind schedule, we might have to cover them when the frosts return.
This morning as I was watering them (yes, I remembered. Poor Led Zeppelin. I had to clip off a few of its very limp leaves) that Jo's tomatoes are ripening early. I can't remember what her species is and where I bought it. I may have to start taking notes.
Deletethose pears look absolutely divine! How lucky you are to have your own fruits & veggies. Our soil does not produce much. We have a difficult enough time keeping the flowers alive.
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful to the Mama for planting so many fruit trees in her back yard. By the time we're done with the Asian pears, the apples will be ready, then the persimmons. We are fortunate.
DeleteI have some tomatoes on in my garden and I am hoping they go well this year. So far I only have 3 ripening away but hopefully some cooler weather helps the plants along. Those pears look interesting and I bet they are tasty.
ReplyDeleteAsian pears don't taste at all like the Bosc or the regular pear. I wonder why they even are called Asian pears. They have a crunch like an apple.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, the figure-8 shaped pear was my favorite fruit. I think it was more so because the Daddy and I ate pears together during is morning break.
