Eden Hills Friday's Hunt V2.1

The photo meme, Friday's Hunt, hosted by Teresa of Eden Hills, starts its second ABC round today.  It's a fun one. I made it to the letter L in the first round. Knock on wood, all goes well that I shall make it to the letter Z this time going.  As Jack Gleason used to say, "Away we go."

Starts with A and Week's Favorite

Our town is holding its annual motorcycle rally this weekend. It comes on or near Fourth of July to commemorate (I guess) the biker "riot" that took place in Hollister in 1947. The The Wild One starring Marlon Brando was loosely based on that incident.  So, for the next three days, we will be hearing and seeing thousands of bikers from all over, who have trekked to the Birthplace of the American Biker.  Many of them will park their bikes on our main street, where the 1947 incident took place.  Want to know more about the 1947 biker "riot"? Click here.

This morning I headed down to the rally before it officially opened to take a few shots. The above photo was my favorite shot. The building (see its name) and the message on the sign together made me laugh. The Husband didn't see anything funny about it at all.  So, I don't know if anyone else will find it amusing.

Where's the letter A, you ask? Animals.

Does anyone know what kind of flower this is? I took a photo of it on one of our strolls through San Juan Bautista. It grows on a bush.

  1. With the sign, I did wonder if they considered animals also dangerous?

    1. I suppose some dogs are vicious because of their owners. Skitterish dogs would be anxious among the crowds and the noisy motorcycles. Vrrrrrrrrom.

  2. This is a beautiful flower and I've seen it before but don't know the name. I find that sign freaky since it seems ok to carry all those weapons normally just not near this area. I find that baffling but I also found it numerous with the name, The Vault, being right behind that sign like it s telling them where they will end up. I know the movie well and read up on this riot because of the movie.

    1. I was honest enough to tell the guard at the beer garden that the Husband had a pocketknife. lol. We wanted to hear a female Motley Crue tribute band so we walked back to the car to drop it off. The band was good. But, the next band we heard -- a local one -- was great! The Husband couldn't dance so we bopped on our chairs.

  3. Hi Suzie, that is a pretty flower. I think it belongs to an overgrown weed.
Per your sign find, I wonder if you have open carry with people walking around with guns in their holsters or hung on slings over their shoulders. If so, the biker rally could get dangerous again. Find a suitable place where you could take cover.
Will the sign work to keep the guns out of the Vault? Our Texas governor and legislature sees to it that you can take your gun most any place. Who knows, we might need to help the police shoot some terrorists or other type crooks. We are like California and don't have much money to spend on law enforcement or health or education or helping poor and old people. Seems the rich got too many tax breaks.

    1. I've never shot a couple of guns I have, I may never. Don't have any bullets for them either.

    2. Thank you for your concern, Jim. I told the Husband what you said, and he said that's always a good idea to notice all the exit points. I hope he was noticing because I sure wasn't when we wandered through this morning. I ought to look up whether CA or at least our area is open carry. I don't like having private citizens carrying guns out in the open, even if they're unloaded. And, if they're unloaded, they're useless, seems to me.

Today I saw more of those flowers on bushes in a frontyard. They must be some kind of drought resistant plant. They'd be nice to have next to a fence.

    1. Thanks,Margaret! With your clue, I was able to find its name. Bush mallow. It grows to 6 ft. tall. That would look neat with hollyhocks.

  7. I thought it was bit funny...I mean if you hadn't explained I would have thought they went together. Love the flower, If it is a weed it is a pretty weed!

  8. Thanks for visiting my blog! Your bush mallow is lovely - I have a mallow in my garden here too, but it's much smaller. Maybe I'll take a picture of it for a future blog. I smiled over the signs picture - and thought that some people actually qualify as dangerous devices, in and of themselves!

    1. Thanks, Gattina. I would love if weapons were forbidden, too. They foster fear.

  10. I love that Margaret identified the flower for you -- she has answered a few questions for me as well! Your sign was funny and sad at the same time to me. Agree with all the commenters (and you) who wonder why people have to carry those weapons ever. Still I'm glad the Vault is safe ;> during motorcycle week. And I didn't know that Hollister was the site of a riot that inspired the movie.

Didn't you used to have a blog called Take Five (??) to Hollister?

    1. Hi, Sallie. Yup, I still write Take 25 to Hollister. I post every Friday right now. Thanks for asking.

  11. I can only imagine how scared the animals would be with so much noise, almost like fireworks. Sounds like it would be fun though! Although, it does seem a bit scary with the warnings. I don't know what that flower is, but it is gorgeous! Thanks so much for joining in Friday's Hunt. Hope you have a great week!
