Why?

1. Nobody wants to hear about mass shootings. La la la la la la.

2. I’m rambling and researching about the subject as I write. So thankful, I am, for the Internet. It would be so easy for me to be a recluse, a hermit, an eccentric, a looney tune. Thank goodness for the Husband! Though, it would be easy for him, too. See, rambles.

3. Guns don’t kill, grump some gun owners. I suppose those people merely have guns for display behind beautiful etched glass doors. “Ooh, isn’t that the cutest gun,” I could say if I was shown such a private display. May that not ever be.

4. “Bah! I’ve got my rights to own guns. Says so in the Constitution, you libtard, Nazi, socialist, communist hussy.” That’s what I imagine some grump, hand on firearm of choice, could shout at me. At my senior age, I may not mind being called a hussy. There goes yon hussy. Waddle, waddle, venture I.

5. The imaginary grump can thank the late Justice Scalia for re-interpreting the Second Amendment to make possession of a firearm a God-given, patriotic individual right, goddammit.

6. Here’s the thing: You’re a responsible gun owner. How is putting restrictions on the purchase of guns and ammunition a strike against your Amendment 2 rights? You already have your gun. Do you need more? For your glass display perhaps? Am I very naive about things? Don’t answer that last question.

7. All I have are questions. Why are babies shooting babies? Why are guns more precious than life? What’s so hard about instituting sensible gun laws and regulations the way we do for using those other things known as cars that don’t kill? How much money does the gun industry and their investors need? Who do you potentially plan on maiming and killing with your gun, excuse me, guns?

8. According to a Washington Post article, speakers at the recent NRA convention blamed the mass shooting in Uvalde that killed two teachers, 19 children with sweet smiles, and 17 injured children and adults on such things as “declining church attendance, physical and social media bullying, weak families, violent video games, opoid abuse, lack of mental health services….”

9. Those sound like great reasons to restrict who buys guns and ammunition, along with the kinds of firearms available for purchase. What say you, NRA convention speakers, who included the usual posers with the ability to do something for us all?

10.  Seriously, why does anyone need a high-powered assault weapon? I would think that you wouldn’t get much game meat to eat.

11. I read an article that stated mass shootings started to increase during the late 1980s and 1990s. In another article, the writer reported that the number of mass shootings today are about the same rate as in 1980s and 1990s. The difference is the number of deaths and injuries per mass shooting.

12.  Some authorities define a mass shooting as four or more victims killed or shot at a scene. So far in 2022, we’ve had 270 mass shootings (per Wikipedia and Gun Violence Archives) in the United States. That’s right, 270 mass shootings in schools, churches, grocery stores, events, no place is sacred. How many victims were injured? My gosh, 1,114 children, youth, and adults! How many victims were murdered? I’m sad to say, 313 children youth, and adults.

13. There’s a reason nobody wants to hear or talk about mass shootings.

Okay, got that out of my system. Thank you for reading through it. I’m heading over to Thursday 13, please join me.

  1. The NRA is an organization created to promote gun sales. And those that belong want to make money off of gun sales. Much like the fossil fuel industry, they are doubling down on allowing the awful things to happen so that they can make a profit. Love of money is the root of all evil. Especially with the NRA.

  2. I've been researching and posting news round-ups on this on my Facebook page. It is so heart wrenching.

  3. #10: EXACTLY! Those guns exist for only one reason, and it's not hunting or even self defense. It's war.
