Hello, Monday Mosaic!

Hello, Angie and Mosaic Monday! I’m so very happy to be hooking up this week. It’s been a very long time.  In April last year, my words went on vacation, to put it nicely. I’d draft things in my mind only to be abandoned, erased, or deleted on paper or on the iPad. Such was the way things went until this past February.

Doesn’t that gopher look like it’s smiling at the camera? The Husband and I were trudging along a trail of some sorts when we saw this gopher pop in, pop out of his hole repeatedly. Maybe it was waiting for us to go by. It was quite healthy. We were down by the high school so it must come across a variety of leftovers on campus.

Fortunate for me, I had my camera. I don’t carry it with me much because the lens has several water spots on it. It’s good for me to be without a camera to my face (click, click, click) more often.

It turned out that the oldest photos in the camera were from a local free outdoor concert the Husband and I went to last September. A gorgeous sunset and grooving the night to Moondance! We couldn’t have asked for anything better on our first outing since the stay-in-place mandate in March 2020.

I’m glad to say that I found other creative outlets while my words went silent. Wordle, quordle, sudoku, jigsaw puzzles. Gardening, cooking, housekeeping. Experimenting with tufa planters, making greeting cards, painting, drawing, sewing. Being. One of these days I’ll write about what bummed me out. Maybe.

Good cheer, Everyone! Check out the fun at Monday Mosaic.

  3. Nothing wrong with taking a break. Nothing wrong with taking pictures of everything, either ;) I think we all go through cycles, and you were at the not-writing portion of your cycle. Glad to have you back.

  6. Su-sieeemac - so glad to see you back again! When people go missing from the blogosphere, it is tempting to think the worst, especially with the pandemic. Good for you to take a break and just be. Lately, I have taken weeks off from blogging when I KNOW it is going to be too much stress to put together a post. I am learning to give myself that grace. Thanks again for linking up to Mosaic Monday! (And the gopher is cute.)

    1. I like the way you say that, Angie: “to give myself grace.” I’m learning that, too. It feels wonderful when I do. This is the second time I’ve heard the word grace phrase in such a way. It’s uplifting.

  8. Dear Susie, I don't think I've ever seen a gopher (or a picture of a gopher) before. And Wikipedia tells me that these animals are native to America, spend almost their entire life underground and only come to the surface in exceptional cases. So you got exactly the right time to take this photo - congratulations!
I didn't know you before your break, but I'm happy with the others that you're back :-)
All the best and happy weekend,
    Traude

  9. Our backyard is full of gopher holes, some even came up into the raised beds which have wire bottoms. And when we walk through our neighborhood the piles of gopher dirt are everywhere. We’ve lived here for almost 30 years and I’ve never seen anything like this.
So glad to see you are back, looking forward to catching up.
