Friday Writing: Stay Curious

“Stay curious” is this week’s prompt for Friday Writing, hosted by Poets and Storytellers United. Molly the Pinky-nosed (Wilde) Cat was overtaken with so much curiosity, she fell asleep on the keyboard. Zzzz. As for me, the prompt led me to thinking about the “Who’s on First” comedy routine by Lou Abbott and Bud Costello (You can easily find it online, if you’re unfamiliar with it.) and eventually to letting a poem in the hay(na)ku format fall out of my brain.

stay curious.

Who,

said Bud,

is on first.

Who,

asked Lou,

is on first?

Alternating

Who. Who?

Back and forth.

Why?

asked Lou,

distraught, desheveled, deflated.

Why,

said Bud,

plays left field.

  5. Hi Suzy, who, who, who's on first base?!?!? The left field is where I played, teams put their poorest players there.

    1. I always thought the worse players went in right field. That’s where they’d stick me if I couldn’t be the catcher.

  7. Comedy with an element of truth. Grownups asking why ... as children just naturally do.

  8. This is classic comedy! And great to have a poem inspired by it.
Is Molly typing "Stay Curious" when she falls asleep? :)

  10. Hola Susiee, saw your name at Hank's. I sincerely apologise for not keeping in touch. A lot has happened for one I've gotten remarried in June 2015 just after I visited you in April.

I remember sending my condolences for the passing of your Mom but maybe too late and not proper. I am certain you missed her tremendously and the world is never the same again.

My brother still lives in San Jose but can't imagine a trip for me to the US.

It is really nice to find you and your lovely blog. Love the name. Do miss you Susiee.

    Love, Lisa

    1. Lisa, Hello! It’s so good to hear from you. The other week, the Husband and I were wondering how you were and hoping all is well with you. Happy 7th Anniversary to you and your husband!

We’re still living in Hollister, probably will be here forever, in Mama’s house which is now ours. Nearly every day, something pops up that reminds us of Mama. She left us with many happy memories.

      Love you, Lisa

  12. I loved that skit, now my husband and I seem to have those kinds of conversations. How in the world did we get so out of sync - it would be funny if it weren't so aggravating.

  13. Debi's comment above made me smile.. yes IRL those conversations can be funny but instead they are quite annoying :)

  14. Not exactly a deep question, Who? But it works--and the bonus is that it doesn't overwork the questioner!
