“Stupid is as stupid does,” said Forrest Gump.
I read that phrase was a take-off on the cliche “Handsome is as handsome does.” Was someone saying that folks who relish in being handsome are dull-minded, superficial, not to be trusted nor believed?
It’s simply dumbfounding that bullies think the best way to make allies is to overwhelm them with their stupidity.
Perhaps it means that if you spend all of your time looking in a mirror and beautifying yourself you don't have time to beautify your soul. That being said, I remember the really pretty girls in high school, not the sharpest tools in the shed, more interested in putting on their make up, making sure their hair was just right, etc.
ReplyDeleteIt takes all kinds. :-)
DeleteI have never heard the handsome version. Maybe it's a regionalism? Who knows? I don't get the people who relish their stupidity, but I guess they feel like they need to be proud of something?
ReplyDeleteMost, if not all, cliches go right over my head. There goes another one.
