13 Staples

Yesterday, I went grocery shopping and was rather surprised how prices have soared since the last time I visited the store. It couldn’t be more than 10 days. Did I really see $12-something for aluminum foil? Ouch.

I’m participating in Thursday 13.  Check it out.

My 13 things today are the foods I like to keep on hand to create mish-mash dishes quickly.

garlic—fresh, dried, powder, and spring

onions

fresh or frozen tomatoes

miso

gochujang, a Korean chili paste

rice

pasta

beans, especially garbanzos and black beans

eggs

kippers

linguisa

frozen green peas

cheeses, particularly sharp cheddar, mozzarella, and Monterey Jack

  1. $12 for aluminum foil? Yikes. That may become something I learn to live without. I wish I liked to cook. I like to eat, but cooking, not so much.

    1. I could probably do without the convenience of aluminum. The Husband will have to scrub pans, hahaha. He’s the dishwasher in this house.

  2. That's a good list. Yup, prices are definitely soaring. Isn't inflation fun? And you've got to wonder how much is inflation and how much is corporations taking advantage of the times.

    1. I’ll guess the corporations do it 89 percent of the time, and I’m being nice. I passed the gas station on the way to the store and saw that the lowest amount was $5.29.99 for cash. I think that was even more than the lowest in Hawaii. Fortunately for us we don’t drive much or far. That’s being old for ya.

  3. So good to hear from you Ms. Susieee. I gotta have onions, rice, pasta and eggs, along with some cheese! Maybe some chips and icecream...over and over, red rover!

  4. Hi, Colleen! Chips and ice cream go into our shopping cart nearly every time too. yum.

  5. Your observation about $12 aluminum foil got me to check. Yes, my local Target is selling the 200 sq. ft. roll of Reynold's Wrap for $10.99. Wow! When did that shoot up? I wonder if it will have an impact on prices at the salon. My stylist uses the pre-cut sheets when he does my highlights. PS I need eggs! Thanks for the reminder.

    1. I suppose it’s because the shipments of foil are still on cargo ships waiting to be unloaded. I hope this is temporary.
