Sunday Stealing: Movie Challenge

I'm taking part in Sunday Stealing, hosted by Bev Sykes, who blogs at Funny the World. This week's  set of questions is called Movie Challenge.

1. Last movie you watched Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker, the final chapter (thank you!) of the series.

2. Last movie you watched in a theater. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

3. Film you’ve always wanted to watch, but haven’t. I can't think of any.

4. Favorite movie soundtrack. I don't have one.

5. Your favorite movie duo. Katharine Hepburn and Gary Grant

6. Movie you like because of its story.  Jane Eyre

7. A film that disappointed you.  Henry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. That sequel is my favorite of the book series. (Yes, I'm a Snapes fan, thanks of Alan Rickman's portrayal.) But, there wasn't much of the story in the movie.

8. Favorite scene from a movie.  When Calamity Jane (Doris Day) sang "The Windy City" in Calamity Jane. Day danced and sang up and down, along, in front of and behind the bar in a Dagwood City saloon. Here's a link to the scene.

9. Your guilty pleasure movie.   Calamity Jane

10. A movie you keep going back to.  Calamity Jane, of course. Also, Two Weeks Notice with Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant.

11. A quote your admire from your favorite movie.   "I thought it was a costume ball," said King Louis XVI in Start the Revolution without Me. Here's a link to the scene.

12. A movie based on a true story. Harriet based on Harriet Tubman. My gosh, what a story! Cynthia Erivo who portrayed Harriet brought the amazing woman to life.

13. Your favorite actor/actress.   I will go through phases of watching movies featuring a certain actor or actress. Once I went through a Billy Connolly craze. Is he ever versatile!

14. A sequel you’re not a fan of.  The last two sequels of the Anne of Green Gable series, directed and produced by Kevin Sullivan. The sequels were good stories but they weren't about the Anne Shirley written by L.M. Montgomery.

15. A film you know by heart.  Pride and Prejudice. It doesn't matter which version.

16. Your favorite opening scene. Nothing comes to mind.

17. A film that was based on a book and was executed well.   The version of East of Eden starring Jane Seymour. Some of the scenes were actually filmed in Hollister, where John Steinbeck's grandparents owned a dairy.

18. A comedy film.  Knives Out.  I'll definitely see this one again. Daniel Craig was hilarious.

19. TV series you’re binging on now.  That Girl, the 1960s series starring Marlo Thomas, who also produced it.

20. A TV series you think is underrated.  Bless this Mess, produced by Lake Bell who also starred with Dax Shepard. A Manhattan couple decides to ditch city living and move to a rundown farm in Nebraska.  The oddball characters were sweet and cared for each other, and the writing was intelligent.

  1. I loved Calamity Jane! The very first record I bought, when I had my own record player, was the soundtrack to that movie. Surprising how many of us saw "Knives Out"

    1. I had no idea what Knives Out was about, or if I did, I forgot. I put it on our Netflix queue because I heard that the former James Bond actor performed a part different from which he's known. He was amazing and so funny.

  3. These would be hard questions for me. I can't remember the last movie I saw or the last movie I saw in a theater. I go so infrequently. Last in a theater was probably the same Star Wars as you. As for last movie I saw, I recorded a bunch on my DVR and have been picking them off. What was the last one? Ummm... I'm not sure.

    1. We stopped going to the local moviehouse because the Husband often got sick afterwards. It's the recycled air. There are times we see a movie at home that I can see the advantage of seeing it on a humongous screen.

  4. ahhhh calamity jane... with Doris day or the other blond funny actress I can't remember at the moment? I have got to watch knives out... so many people liked it. I like Alan Rickman too... I remember wanting him after a robin hood kind of film... yes, wanting him lol. That Girl was a favorite back in the day, I suffered through garter belts to wear white hose like she did, and that flip! I watch it mornings here on METV

  5. What a wonderful list . . . will give it a try myself
    Hmm . . . let's see
1 - Last movie watched - The Avengers: Endgame . . . a perfect ending to the whole Iron Man/Avengers movie cycle
2 - In a theater - I think it was The Force Awakens too - my hearing's so bad it's just not worth it anymore.
    3 - Haven't watched - Antonia's Line - I'll get there one day
4 - Movie soundtrack - The Last Temptation of Christ - incredibly powerful mid-eastern fusion.
    5 - Movie duo - Sandra Bullock/Cate Blanchett - Ocean's 8
6 - Like the story - Man From Earth
7 - Disappointed - The Shape of Water - mostly because of the colour palette the director chose
8 - Favourite scene - Mad Max: Fury Road - where Furiosa (Charlize Theron) discovers her 'green place' no longer exists
9 - Guilty pleasure - Cheesy disaster films, the more mayhem and CGI effects the better.
    10 - Edge of Tomorrow - brilliant 'time-loop' movie
11- Movie Quote - Everyone fails at who they’re supposed to be … the measure of a person is how well they succeed at being who they are. -Frigga’ - Avengers: Endgame
    12 - True story - there's a few . . . Julie & Julia, The King's Speech, Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett again) Apollo 13, The Imitation Game
13 - Favourite actor - right now, Charlize Theron
14 - Unfavourite sequel - Independence Day: Resurgence
    15 - Know by Heart - Interstellar

    1. We saw Mad Max with Charlize Theron recently. I didn't think I would like it, boy was I wrong. I couldn't imagine Charlize Theron in the part. She can make anything work!
The same thing with The Orville. It grew on me. That Seth guy is crazy talented like Ms. Theron.
