Seeing Clearly Again, The Husband Is

Now that the Husband's eyes have healed from his cataract surgeries, he can drive again. And, that means I can be a passenger again. Last Wednesday was his first time back at highway driving. Yippieeee! I took out my pocket camera and clicked away at the passing scenery.

These first two photos are of hardworking men and women harvesting greens, possibly romaine, in San Juan Valley, outside of San Juan Bautista.

You're looking at drivers heading north on Highway 101, just pass the exit to San Juan Bautista. Yup, I click away at nearly everything and anything. So is the advantage and luxury of shooting pictures with a digital camera.

We were heading south on Highway 101. Did you ever see Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo? He shot a driving scene through this grove of eucalyptus trees. Part of the movie was set in the old mission city of San Juan Bautista. FYI: Hitchcock built his own mission tower for the movie.

There's usually congestion around this curve, which is fine with passenger me. It allows me a chance to check out Nature's art on the side of the hill. I wonder if once upon a time this part of Highway 101 was all hill.

  1. Great shooting from a moving car. I loved having my cataracts removed - it made me see like a child!

    1. Thanks, Carol. The Husband agrees with you. He was in grammar school the last time he saw a clear world. My turn next.

  7. i love it when Joe drives and I can snap pictures. Love the tractor shot. Your mountains are bigger than ours in the Blue Ridge.

    1. Colleen, from what I read, the coast range in our area are about the same height as your mountain range, from 4,000 to 6,000 ft. or so. They may look bigger in my photos because of me zooming in.

  8. It is a luxury to have one's own private driver! I have too :) And I share your thought that creativity or joy or life don't vanish by aging. Guess what? I'm 68 and stil going strong - I hope :) Wishing you fun drives and a lot of great shots!

  9. Being a passenger is much nicer than being a driver. Remember film in cameras? We sure limited the photos we took then, didn't we?

    1. I was lucky if I got one or two good shots in a roll or 24 or 36 prints. What was more disappointing is when the developing place screwed my negatives.
