Fun. And, More Fun!

The other day, friends (whom I've known since elementary school) and I were kidding about not knowing what we want to be when we grow up.  Then I realized that I did know and that I was doing it: Playing at being an artist. And, not just with words. Whooo-hooo!

A couple weeks ago I finished my first painting. It's on the concrete step outside the patio window. Some of you may remember the bottles I painted earlier this month. I let a few of them dry on that concrete step, which left paint stains. I decided that painting over the stains was the best way to get rid of them. And, so I did.

BOOK PLANTER
I made one!

It was easy-peasy. If you want to give it a try, do a search for "book planter" in your browser. One of these days, I'll share my method once I've got it down. I have another book ready to be planted and four more prepped to carve.

My first book planter became a housewarming gift. The yellow glassy thing (in the middle photo above) is a tiny crystal turtle. I also stuck a green glass marble in among the rocks. I look forward to making more book planters. Whooo-hooo!

Monday came too quickly. I suppose that's what happens when I'm having fun. I invite you to come along with me to the memes hosted by the lovely Jesh and Angie. Good cheer, One and All!

  1. Su-sieee - my word for the week is 'unconventional', and I think your picture appears next to that word in the dictionary! Who else would paint a step to cover up paint stains? Only someone as unique and special as you! Love the book planter idea - maybe I could use this for one of my future Munch and Make sessions - but probably have to wait until the weather is better and we can do it outside! Thanks for linking up to Mosaic Monday, and have a wonderful week!

  3. Yay! Who ever liked cleaning steps anyway? You know have the beginnings of the artist tour of your place starting at the back door step art. Fabulous! Be careful everyone is going to want one of those book planters now! Maybe its an A - Z theme? :)
    Happy days

  5. You are living the creative life. That's what I tell people my blog is about. Seeing the world through eyes that see what could be, making what you feel will bring interest and beauty. I have never seen a book planter, so creative! I like the small quiet touches like a glass marble or the turtle. Little extras.

  6. Wow, am happy you are following your heart, Blog Friend! You "see" art in everything around you That painted concrete step is so much fun - like one is stepping into another world. The book planter looks so accomplished. When I think about your painted bottles plant border - wonder if you would like to prepare tutorials for people in the future with a number of projects? On a blog or if you have the opportunity for video? Something like that.... Don't get scared, I always see possibilities for other people, lol.
For right now I'm just happy for you that the ones at All Seasons can enjoy your art endeavors:):) Have a fun week!

  8. OK...I thought you were laying down looking at your painting on the wall. Hahaaaaa, I was getting it at all about the step-it took me 5 minutes before i figured it out. I love the rich moody colours. In fact, the very top, the 4 pictures which is the step but in 4 pics, I thought the last 2 looked like a ghostly cemetery and I was just imagining a ghostly vision. I thought it was very cool.

  19. Why not paint the steps, I found myself unexpectedly playing den mother to some college kids when I lived on campus and gave them my TV and one of my VCRs to paint to amuse them. Thankfully the little stoners didn't paint over the screen or inside the tape slot.
    Loving the book planters!
