This morning I had a wonderful time imagining and experimenting while soaking in autumnal sun bubbles.
My intention was to make wreaths out of apple branches I pruned last week, but I couldn't find the green wire that I set aside for the wind chimes the Husband and I will make out of keys. I lost track of the wire on Friday. Yes, I know I should've put it away where I could find it, but that was where it was, until it wasn't.
Just as well. The apple branches didn't look exciting, so I threw them in the compost bin. When I turned around, I saw a pot perfect for the pineapple sage plant (aka Pinya) we bought yesterday. Look at the photo above to see the painted result.
The Husband said the combination of the colors reminded him of the Southwest. My inspiration for the blue was the blue in Sitting Bull's war shirt as portrayed in the movie Woman Walks Ahead. Have you seen it? It's about Catherine Weldon, the woman who painted Sitting Bull's portrait, Sitting Bull, their relationship, and the ways of the world. The Husband and I liked the story. Essentially, humanity and inhumanity, side by side.
I did a several artsy-craftsy things this morning. My other completed project was a succulent arrangement housed in the old white metal basin that was under my work table. We bought the succulents two or three Saturdays ago, so they needed a new home pronto
Later today (or tomorrow) I'll plunk Pinya into her new home. Experts say Spring is the best time to plant her type of sage. She's mature, but sturdy-looking, and at half-off, I couldn't resist purchasing her. If I'm diligent with her winter care, Pinya may have butterflies kissing her next year. The same with the Black-eyed Susan that we also bought for half-off yesterday.
Ha! I can hear the Mama's spirit saying, "Try it. If it works, it works. You keep trying until you find what works." If that's not being a scientist, what is?

ReplyDeleteYes, I really liked the feature film, "Woman Walks Ahead" . . . depicts determination, honor, respect . . . and because it's based on truth - it rips at the heart . . . while giving us hope.

Precisely, G, I saw that, too in Woman Walks Ahead. We watched it on a Netflix disk so we stopped now and then, which I think make the ending more bearable even thought I knew we were going to see Sitting Bull's death.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Sallie. I painted three more pots. Gosh, it's fun. Nothing is sacred. I did my first pass of painting on a raggedy redwood fence rail. It reminded me of a whale. We'll see what it ends up looking like, if anything. A theoretical scientist, definitely not. Abstract artist, maybe.

ReplyDeleteGold is one of my go to colors right now. The others are purple and turquoise. The jury is still out on whether I've inherited green thumbs. Some of her plants have gone to the compost bin.

DeleteI planted a pineapple sage in MD and it grew each year, til I hated leaving it! The most magnificent tall colorful blossoms each year, very hardy in zone 8 there.
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear, LA. I think we're zone 9 so there's a strong chance. I planted Pinya today. She was so compacted in her pot, i thought I heard her sigh relief.
