Once Upon a Time

This was in 1996 (or 1997) in our backyard at our first home together. We had an awesome view of San Francisco Bay and, behind the Husband and all that greenery, of San Francisco.

It had been about 20 years since either of us lived in a house. What a luxury that was. No flights of stairs to carry groceries, packages, or laundry. Open the front door and sit on an actual porch. Until sound walls were built by the freeway a few miles below us, we heard no traffic. And, we had a huge backyard with nothing in it so we could transform it into anything we wanted. Yes, definitely a wonderful first home for us to get used to each other.

Doesn't the Husband look cute? In college, he was given the nickname "Farmer Dick" by his friends. Not because he was a farmer, but because he wore overalls a lot.  (That's another thing the Husband and I had in common when we were young.)  He makes a handsome farmer, the Husband does, so I say.

I'm linking up with All Seasons, a weekly meme hosted by Jesh at Artworks from Jesh St.G. Click here to check out Jesh and her meme. For the participants list, click here. Thanks, Jesh!

    1. The landlord sold the house. He'd offered it to us at below market price, but the Husband just took early retirement and neither of us wanted to get a 9 to 5 job. Still a wise decision.

  3. If you don't mind my agreeing ... yes, there's something very appealing about the right man in overalls ....

    1. Yup. Back then, one of my shallow wants in a guy was someone who looked good in jeans or overalls and a three-piece suit. lol

  4. Am jealous! Why did you give up that house? Too congested traffic wise, or? You probably need to be a millionaire now to live there, or?
But your reasons are probably good ones!
Many thanks for sharing this time in your life with All Seasons!

A different subject - can't remember if I wrote you about this or not - March 8 came and went, and there hasn't been a Weekend Journal page, for the simple fact that I started my next big painting and am not enough hours on the computer. Thank you for participating, and hope I can pick it back up later - PLEASE, promise you don't stop writing and drawing!!

    1. The decisions we make, huh. It's been almost 15 year since we moved out of the Bay Area. You're right, there's no way we could afford to live there, if we wanted to move back. We definitely don't miss the traffic, although it's starting to show up here now.

Not to worry, Jesh, writing and now drawing are in my blood. :-)

    1. That's a good title. A Cool Dude in Dungarees. I remember a story I read as a schoolgirl about a boy who wore dungarees and liked to sail. That's all I recall.
