A Pleasant Drive to the Pet Store

I took this photo a few days ago. This is part of Pajaro Valley, east of Watsonville, in Santa Cruz County. Do the mountains look far away? Because they really are.  The Husband and I drive through this valley on our way to and from Freedom where we buy Molly the Cat's food.

It's about an hour round drive, but so worth the peace of mind we get as we drive the back roads of the valley and along the windy low mountain pass highway to San Benito County where we live. Once through the pass, we drive through San Juan Valley to our town of Hollister, which is in the tail end of the Santa Clara valley. As a kid, I heard people say we live in Hollister Valley or San Benito Valley. These days I read about our town nestled in a small valley, so I wonder if our valley has a formal name, now forgotten. That's something to look up one day.

  1. I'm loving your photo art these days -- and share your love of peaceful beautiful scenic drives. (It is good to have a purpose for the outing -- like feeding your sweet Molly ... I usually don't have any purpose at all except to maintain my sanity. Which is probably important. At least to my husband.)

    1. Hi Sallie, you got me thinking how fortunate I am right now. Buying food Molly and us is the only mandatory purpose we have these days. Well, there's paying bills, which must be the things reminds me we are responsible adults. Sanity, yes, there's the deadheading and rearranging in the garden for me, which I'm sure the Husband thanks. lol

  2. If you drive north about ten miles, I can see the mountains here. Makes me wonder how far away they really are

  3. Is this an unpaved road, Susie, or is the foreground the side of the road? It looks very much like where I live, the peaceful scene of a vineyard and hills/mountains in the background. Many thanks for sharing your neck of the woods with All Seasons!
What is the nearest city or town you get your groceries?
Do you have a good recipe for truffels? I always wanted to make them. How long does it take to make a batch? Do you roll them into balls?

Oh, last Friday I posted another Weekend Journal Page - hope you're having something to share (you have time till March 8 to link!)
Am contemplating, now the holidays are over, and supposedly I have more time, to add "art" to the title, so it's more clear to people, and to do an official linky anyway. We'll see...

    1. The foreground is bared ground in the vineyard, probably 4 ft from the edge of the road we're on. This is foothill stuff so that may be why it reminds you of your area.

Although I call Hollister a town, it's considered a small city so we and Molly weren't so picky we could all our food shopping here. lol

No recipe. I made truffles a long time ago for the father-in-law. I remember it was quick and easy. And, yes, I made balls that I rolled in cocoa. Yummmm, it's hot cocoa weather right now, otherwise I might entice myself to make truffles tonight.

    2. I love puttering along too. Mrs Widds however, has a bit of a 'lead foot' so she drives along the fast roads and I drive along the slow ones ... glad to hear your knees are hanging in there. (mixing this comment with one for your next post about the walk in the park) Mine too.Just when I've come to terms with scheduling an appointment with an ortho surgeon, they up their game and are good to go again.

    3. Yay, knees! The left one is hurting today, but still popping which I take to mean it's raring to dance the charleston or something.

    1. I can hear a lot of tweet, tweet, tweet, when I roll the windows down. I do wonder how many more there were before the valley got populated. I love that the valley was named after los pajaros.
