Some Things I Like

I like wandering the back roads of our area.

I like looking at the clock and seeing that it's not even 11:00 a.m. and I've accomplished a lot and if I want to accomplish more, I can.

I like moving things around in a room to find the sweet flow to it. The Husband and Molly the Cat, not so much. The Husband doesn't care for all the lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. I tell him it's exercise. Missy Girl simply dislikes the change, at first.

I wish I could do all the moving with my mind. Isn't there a term for that?

Yesterday I decided to move my sewing stuff to the other side of L Studio, and, in so doing, I discovered the fabric for my tunic that I've been wanting to sew for two years, but couldn't because, yeah, I had no idea where the material had gone. Hee-hee.

DRUMMER DUDE

I like the all-of-a-sudden, off-the-top-of-our heads, impromptu moments with the Husband. The other day I was throwing stuff in the green organic waste can  when my eyes glanced onto a couple of turned over plastic buckets and wondered how they might sound. Tap, tap, bong, bong. Ah-ha!

Yooo-hooo! I popped my head into the open sliding door to the house. "Come check this out."

The Husband gladly distracted himself from washing the breakfast dishes. I demonstrated, then gave him my stick. Within seconds, he was looking for another stick.

As he searched the pile of recently cut branches, I moved the two plastic buckets and a metal basin to the other side of the yard, away from our neighbor's window. No need to wake up their baby. On the way, I found a metal three tier tray stand.

And just like that, the Husband was jamming on his makeshift drum set.

13 THINGS FOR DECEMBER
I like to make lists when I'm serious about accomplishing things. Here's what I want to start and/or complete this month, in no particular order:
• Bake biscotti or Russian tea cakes
• Make a junk journal
• Figure what to create with the county fair ribbons I've earned
• Start a family scrapbook for Older Brother
• Bake Kraut Veklen, a recipe a friend gave me to try
• Build one planter box
• Sew curtains for the upstairs hallway
• Draft a picture book with the ABC creatures
• Pick materials for the L Studio curtains
• Assemble notes, postcards, letters, and such to decoupage on the hallway wall
• Turn broken ceramic pots into one or more planters
• Scatter wildflower seeds in the front and back yards
• Sew me a much-needed tunic

Today I'm hanging out at I Like Thursdays, Thursday Thirteen, and Thankful Thursdays. Please check them out. Thank you much, Lovely Hosts!

    1. Thanks, Colleen. No doubt I will be bragging about my tunic. :-)

  2. Telekinesis.

Sounds like you have a lot to keep you busy. The impromptu drum set would have driven me bonkers. I get enough tapping from the kiddos on a normal day.

  3. You are a busy person! The drum set is cool; I can't see my husband doing anything like that at all. He's an all-work, no-play kind of boy. What exactly is a junk journal?

    1. Only on paper. I distract myself a lot, hence the list. And, if you noticed, I fudge a bunch by considering or figuring what to do. lol Junk journals, from what I can tell, are scrapbooks gone crazy. You start with a hardcover book, tear out pages, add repurposed paper and cards, glue pages together so you can paint or glue things to them, and so forth and so on.

  4. applause applause!!! your husband is a fab drummer! How fun and that's living the creative life. Can't believe he did all that with tree sticks and buckets. Your cat is so pretty and cozy. Thanks for sharing all this, now I'm smiling

    1. The Husband says, Thank you, LA." He's pretty proud of himself. Today we discovered a bamboo vase makes a good percussion instrument. We'll get a band together yet!

  5. Sounds like you need telekinesis! So cool that you found your lost fabric in all the moving around, and I love your impromptu jam session. Definitely more fun than moving and dishes!

    1. It's distractions like these that have us not get much done everyday. Isn't that what retirement life is all about? lol

  6. A junk journal? Have fun with your tunic!

    1. I'm glad to know you and another didn't know what a junk journal is. I thought I was the only one. It turns out junk journals have been around for several years and people actually make them to sell to people who don't want to go to the trouble. Hmmm.
I copied my definition of a junk journal from my response to CountryDew: Junk journals, from what I can tell, are scrapbooks gone crazy. You start with a hardcover book, tear out pages, add repurposed paper and cards, glue pages together so you can paint or glue things to them, and so forth and so on.

  8. Love the drumming, and your 1st pic is awesome. LOL about losing something in the sewing room.....I have never done that...OK I do all the time. I have been looking for 3 yards of fabric I know I have, but can't lay my hands on it.

    1. Thanks, Siouxzq! I really need to downsize myself of a lot of fabric.

    1. Hi Angie, yes, I am. This morning the Husband was trying to teach me how to drum. My brain tends to go faster than my hands. Or, is it vice versa?

  10. What an interesting to-do list!
I agree with the cat, leave things where they are! Though you have pointed out a benefit of moving things around - you find things you have been looking for!

    1. I've discovered (of course it would happen) that this to-do list is sideswiped by the unofficial list of sneaky things that get done. lol

  11. Hello, I like the drum set. You are a busy person. I am wondering about the junk journal? I am happy you found the fabric. Your images and post are fun. Enjoy your day, have a happy weekend!

    1. Thanks, Eileen. I've seen posts by bloggers who've added fabric to their journals. That's intriguing.

  14. Not many people who ever had a plastic bucket tried playing the drums on it.

  15. I love when I re-discover fabric or projects in hidden places!

  16. Groovy jam, man. I was on a cleaning binge for the last few days too, found all sorts of things, old coins all blue green with goo, a red sweater just in time for Christmas, more shorts than any human being should own but no drums. I also love lists, it's the only way I get things done.

    1. Yup. Lists are meant for getting things done. And, if I truly mean it I put a date to the list. Also double and triple underline items that must be done.

  19. Great list. Always nice to get lots accomplished before 11 a.m. I'm usually the opposite, looking up at 11 and wondering what I've been doing and why I've accomplished nothing. Hope you're having a great weekend.

  20. Thanks (both of you)for the concert! Smiles for the music and the spontaneity! Glad I read the comments, which I don’t always do, because it saved me from looking up telekinesis. Which would have been exceedingly handy for us this week as we took down and put away hurricane shutters. And porch furniture ....

  22. OK. This impromptu concert is yet another reason that I want to hang with you guys! What, my friend, is a junk journal? Have a great weekend!

    1. That would be fun. The Husband would play a concert for a few branches from your forest. :-) So far I've been mentally thinking about my junk journal. Too much thinking, I think. It's time for me to just start ripping apart a book and adapting it to allow writing, drawing, painting, taping, and so forth on the pages.
