G is for the Masonic G

My theme for #23 Round of ABC Wednesday: Signs & Such of San Benito County, California
The Masonic Lodge of San Benito County was established 147 years ago ago, three years before San Benito became a separate county from Monterey County. Its home is the familiar brick building with the infamous clock tower at the corner of San Benito and Fourth Streets.

The Masonic symbol of a G in the middle of a square and compass is on the outside wall above the lodge's entrance. The G stands for Great Architect of the Universe, as well as for Geometry. If you're interested in learning more, check out this page at the Masonic Lodge of Education web site.

    1. I read that Masons had no problem with different religions because each was a way of explaining God. Something like that. I had no idea Masonry is a religion and that the Catholic Church, in the past, decreed it a bad thing. Of course it would.

  4. I sort of gave thought to become a freemason, mainly because of the Stonecutters parody in the Simpsons cartoon. But by the time I researched it, I learned that they do admit non-religious people while strangely allowing any faith/religion. They say it's because I would (or someone else) have no moral compass, I say they're assholes.

The boy scouts have a similar policy. I was never nor wanted to be one, but it sure doesn't make me want to buy their stupid popcorn to know they quietly discriminate.

    1. Didn't both movies star the woman who played Marty's mom?

    2. Kathleen Turner was Peggy Sue and I believe Helen Hunt played her daughter which is kind of weird. Jim Carey was in it too. I think the mom was in a popular sitcom the same time Mad About You was on. What was that show, I want to say like Suddenly Susan but that's not it.
