An Armful of Bags

Where oh where did my fabric go? Where oh where did it go?

I've been looking for the pieces of rayon fabric for my tunic, the cotton remnants for L Studio's curtains, and the blue hue bunch of fat quarters and scrap. Well, I've been talking about looking. That's not true. I did look through the boxes and containers of fabric in the NW corner of L Studio on Monday. Since then, I've been letting my brain consider where these missing materials might be.

Regardless of the misplaced fabric, I have been busy on the sewing machine. In my search, I found worn-out tee-shirts of ours and skirts I bought at a thrift shop that I put aside years ago to repurpose into something useful. So, there you go. Up in that photo, Husband is modeling our four new tee-shirt shopping bags and in the photo below, another new shopping bag made from a skirt.

Hot cha-cha.

  1. That's a good idea for recycling. I'm one of the few people in S. Carolina who actually uses green bags (outside of Aldi and Lidl which force your hand to get them) when I get my groceries.

    1. Good for you, Adam. For several years now in California we pay a dime for a bag. That's not enough of a fee to encourage a majority to bring bags.

    1. Thanks, Uppal. It was easy and quick. My kind of sewing project.

  3. That's a perfect way to help protect the environment - besides avoiding plastic bags, using shirts and skirts help avoid putting more things in landfills, and the energy waste that goes into making brand new reusable bags.

  5. A great way to repurpose! I have trouble sewing on a button!

    1. My buttons eventually fall off. The buttonholes are what scare me. Also sewing zippers, darts, and elastic.

  6. Thank you. I feel so smart after converting the skirt. I'm not overthinking.

  7. And if hubby forgets his pants he can always where his shopping bag. I love all the repurposed tee bags (ha) and as many cloth shopping bags as I've gotten, most of them have disappeared like your rayon and remnants, poof.

    1. I figure I'll be ahead of the game with shopping bags. Mine disappear, too. Just as well since I don't think they're machine washable. I read an article that kindly reminded us to wash our reuseable bags frequently. They after all, according to the article, can harbor germs. I was going to write that we managed to live healthily without washing the bags for the last 2 years or so, but then I recalled. I found the remnants for the curtains yesterday. Yay!
