Swings and jungle gyms. Slides and teeter-totters. I came across a playground for the first time when I was five years old on my first day of first grade. I really took to the slides, especially the corkscrew one. When I got home that day, I looked forward to the next day of the slides just as much as the books and the pencils, and the desks and the blackboards. That experience lasted all of two-and-a-half days. I had to wait a full year to hang out in a playground again because the teacher said I was "too young" for school.
It was okay. I went back to my old playground of open fields.

I'm sure my first was at a playground for one of the fast food places, I do remember my first one in kindergarten
ReplyDeleteI remember a small playground at the Drive-in, but I was too shy to go check it out.
DeleteI can't remember my first playground but I'm sure it must have been before I went to school at the age of five. The equipment that you find in playgrounds now is nothing like what they had back then though :(
ReplyDeleteI think ours were more dangerous. No worries about being sued back then, I suppose.
DeleteYou tried to sneak into school early? (Lol).... I remember loving the school playground too! Remember the merrygorond and the giant strikes?
ReplyDeleteThe merry go round was my favorite, even more than the slides. The jungle gym was always a challenge.
DeleteSilly teachers and their arbitrary age rules.
ReplyDeleteIronically (correct word?), when I was in 2nd grade, the teachers decided I should join the 3rd graders 2 months into the year. So began my huh? about English grammar.
DeleteNever too early to learn and look how well you turned out! Loved hearing this little story. Memories always make me smile. I loved the teeter totter and slides. I am so happy I found you here. I miss so many wonderful faces and okaces since Jenny gave up ALphabe Thursday. I need to send her a note. :-) Good to see you and thank you for sharing. Have a beautiful week. HUGS
ReplyDeleteI miss Alphabe Thursday, too. Thanks for looking me up, Anne.
DeleteMy first playground was our house backyard. There was no special equipment there. Me and my brother came up with games. That was so much fun.
ReplyDeleteThe best!
DeleteI love your picture! It’s so beautiful and fun and bright. What a sweet memory
ReplyDeleteThanks, Birgit! The Husband wanted to know why the little girl is dragging a stick. Why not? I asked him.
