A Wagon Full of Rocks

Last week, the Husband and I rediscovered the landscaping supply store outside of town. Our original intent was to merely check out  the ground covering alternatives for a future pull-out-the-front-lawn project. When I came across the pit full of tiny rocks, I had to have some. So, I got about 5 pounds for about two dollars. What a bargain!

I went home and proceeded to quickly use them in cup planters that I was putting together. So, of course, the next day, we went back to the store and I bought 10 pounds. I went home, and, yup, within a couple of hours I was down to a small bowl full of stones. I wasn't close to potting and repotting all the Mama's plants.

To make sure I did something else the rest of the week, I didn't go to the store. Good, girl, me.

Yesterday morning, I broke down and the Husband and I drove to the store and went home with four bags full of stones for a total of 120 pounds. Ha! We'll see how long that lasts.

By the way, that's only two bags full of rocks in the red wagon.

Talk about talking about nothing, huh?

  1. Well, you talk about nothing very well indeed. Now I'm wondering if I might need some rocks somewhere in the garden..........

    1. Our neighbor down the street told us that his wife has him put some kind of sealant on their rocks every six months so that the colors show. I don't know if I'd go that far but if the Husband wanted to do it, I wouldn't stop him. :-)

  4. I had an old wagon full of stones. I used the stones to raise some potted plants I kept in the wagon. Even though I had drilled holes in the bottom of the wagon the stones kept the moisture trapped and the wagon rusted away. :(

    1. Hmmm. I have a bunch of huge metal cooking pots that I might use for planters. Maybe I ought to set them on stones for drainage.

  6. Love wagons, especially red ones ready for gardening. Someday I hope to take lot's of yard space so not too much mowing.

    1. The only thing green in our lawn are the weeds. I hope the poppy seeds I tossed into the lawn will grow. We're in our 5th year of drought so we can get away with a brown front yard for now.

  9. I grew up in the desert (Rancho Mirage, CA), and our whole yard was small rocks. Seems kinda funny now, but at the time, it was all I knew. We had a few cactus, too.

    1. A yard of rocks is still a foreign idea, but the more times I go to that landscaping supply store, I can get wrap my mind around a desert-like landscape.
