Q is for Quick and Easy

Yesterday the Husband and I got together with friends and hiked in the Pinnacles National Park, one of the newest parks in the National Park Service system. It had been planned for awhile, but as usual, I didn't think about what to bring for trail snacks until Saturday. We had no idea how far or how long we would hike.

"What do you think about getting energy bars for the hike?" I asked the Husband.

"Great idea," he said. "We can bring apples."

"Okay. How about some nuts?"

"Yeah."

"We have carrots."

"That'll be good, too."

Done. Quick and easy meal planning. I always like that.

  1. When we're going to be out all day, I tend to think of having provisions for an expedition. Lots of water, ice for the cooler, mac salad for the DH, rice and something warming for me, nuts...

    1. I like the idea of having mac salad waiting for me in the ice cooler. I might even walk more just to have the salad.

  2. I always wonder about the Pinnacles National park, and I think our Pinnacles up in the San Bernardino Mountains had the name first. Then again, I hear our Pinnacles took the name from another park in the US, and then there is a Pinnacles national park in Australia. So many places with large boulders. I love hiking our at our local Pinnacles, and I have drawn a picture and painted an illustration of these.

    1. The Pinnacles was made into a national park last year, but it has existed as a National Monument since 1908. Since it became a park, the marketing is so different. I couldn't get over the number of people on the trail to the caves. I just hope the small park won't get overwhelmed.

    2. It sounds like a fun place to hike. Do you ever go to Death Valley? That is a great park to visit as well.

    1. I'm glad I did. The Husband had a fall and later he felt the shock of it. The nutrition was what he needed to kick himself back up into gear. That was scary.

    1. We had a great time, Anna. Thanks for asking. We're all in our 60s. It's like that commercial about the oldsmobile. We aren't like our parents' oldsmobile. Something like that. :-)

    1. Cool, KAT Writer! One of these days I'll tandem skydive again. I used to think I wanted to learn do it by myself. The Pinnacles National Park is gorgeous. Normally, the park would have a wildflower bonanza during this time, but not this year because of the drought.
