Itty-bitty bananas are growing in our backyard. It's quite amazing. Don't let that photo fool you. I took it close up. They are truly very small bananas.
Bananas have grown before, but normally they sprout at the end of summer, then before you know it, the weather is cool, and so much for the fruit. This year though, ooh la la, we may be eating bananas from our trees.

Beautiful! I'm trying to imagine how tiny but have a good idea when comparing to the wood grain. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'd say they're about finger long. :-)
DeleteWell, how much fun to have yourown snack tree! I couldlive on bananas. Thanks for stopping by .
ReplyDeleteHopefully, they'll ripen and taste great, and more will grow.
DeleteI think it is cool you can even grow these outside of the tropics.
ReplyDeleteThe plants themselves will grow anywhere that's warm. The fruit is another stale. When the frost hits our plants, we chop off the dead parts, and come spring, the plants are up and at 'em again.
DeleteThose are freaky-looking.
ReplyDeleteAlso, McAfee Site Advisor warned me about visiting your blog for some reason. (?)
I thought so, too, when I first saw them.
DeleteThanks for the heads up. I've checked and can't find anything wrong on my end.
Wow! Bananas-I hope you have them for tasty treats
ReplyDeleteMe, too. I can hardly wait to try them.
DeleteWow, growing your own bananas is awesome. And food always tastes better if you grow it yourself.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. Our backyard is a jungle because the Mama loves to garden. I love that we have persimmons, apples, lemons, Asian pears, avocados, and Blenheim apricots to eat.
DeleteHmm...I think I have a book somewhere about a guy trying to grow bananas in Alberta....I should finish it. I wish we could grow them here...my favourite fruit :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe with a greenhouse. I think about making a makeshift greenhouse so the Mama can have fun growing tropical veggies.
DeleteCool! I hope you get some fruit. Ours can take at least 3 months to ripen, or more!
ReplyDeleteMaui Jungalow
That's good to know. We have no idea. So, maybe June. Looking forward to tasting it.
