Singing Me Onward

(1) Be forewarned, I'm talking a lot about Sing in this Thursday 13 post. Sing is my titanium and plastic left knee joint. Yep, by golly, I am anthropomorphising (what a long word!)  my artificial joint. Sing a song of sixpence. . . .

(2) Sing celebrated her sixth week anniversary yesterday, Wednesday, by revealing her name to me.  Whoot, whoot!

(3) I’m now up to 20 minutes of steady heel-toe, heel-toe around the neighborhood with a walking stick, no less. Knee-haw! There’s definitely a difference in my gait with Sing taking the lead. I feel like I’m walking stronger and surer. My right knee joint isn’t protesting too much, thank goodness.

(4) Spoiler alert: My future artificial right knee joint will be called Song. Hence, one day in the near future, with Sing and Song, I shall be hiking through meadows, crossing creeks, and climbing mountain trails. Ahhh. Delightful.

(5) Another milestone: I drove Sally Forth today. After our walk, the Husband and I jumped into the car for me to give her a whirl. I don’t know why I thought I’d have trouble driving. After six weeks of being driver, the Husband was quite happy sitting in the passenger’s seat checking out the sights.

(6) How can I forget to mention that I moved upstairs to our bedroom this week, along with the walker and toilet riser retired to storage. Yipppieee!

(7) Bzzzzz, bzzzzz, bzzzzzz sayeth the bees in the front yard. Most are slurping on blue rosemary blossoms, white jade flowers, and white blossoms on the ornamental pear tree. Bzzzz, bzzzz, bzzzz. Would it really be nice if they built a beehive in the tree? Neighbors probably wouldn’t like it.

(8) I’m not totally like Mama was, but the inklings are there. For instance, me wait for Spring to work in the garden. Bah, humbug. When I’m moving about, I don’t feel the cold.

(9) Isn’t my quilted mug coaster cute? It’s a gift from blogging friend LeeAnna, Not Afraid of Color. Several days before I received it, I was thinking how fun it would be to have mug coasters, just because. Then, voilà! A mindreading artist is LeeAnna. ❤️

(10) For this week’s “I Like Thursday,” LeeAnna asked participants what our favorite colors are, how we use the colors, and how our color choices have changed over time, among other lines of thought. So, let me think about this.

(11) Word association game time. I’ve listed the colors that have shown up in my life.
Pink, happy, love. Red, safe, strong, love. Yellow, stable, consistent, love. Brown, love, giving, resilience. Green, fun, festive, love. Blue, adventure, inner strength, love. Purple, sensual, depth, thinking, love. Orange, out-of-the-box, bold, joyful, love.

(12) If I were ambitious, which may happen, I would sew me a top and dress in a subtle crazy quilt design. See, Sing has me wanting to sing out in joyful color.

(13) Almost forgot to mention my other Sing milestone today. Because I’m confident about driving again, I went solo to my physical therapy session. First time I’ve gone without the Husband cheering me from the sidelines as I stretched and strengthened Sing into being part of me. I heard the Husband anyway.

That’s my song.  See you at Thursday 13 and I Like Thursday

    1. Doing color associations was a joyful exercise for me. Each color represented a thing during a certain time of life for me which then turned into how I feel and believe about the strength and comfort of that time. Just happened.

  5. Sing Song is a good mantra for walking. So glad to hear how well you are healing! I was WOWED by the pink flower painting.

    1. You’re right, Colleen, Sing Song is perfect! It’s a gentler and mirthful sound than Heel Toe. Two mantras in my Knee-haw! toybox, yaaay!

  7. Oh my sounds like you are making great progress with your knee! I had to laugh at "Sing-Song". :) You certainly have a beautiful view on your walks! Did you do that gorgeous pink painting?

    1. Thanks, Linda. That’s a photo that I cropped and edited in Photoshop, a while back. You’ve got me wanting to do a painting of it now, thanks.

    1. It cracks the Husband and me up when a Mama-ism shows up in me. Thank goodness I can choose to throw a Mama-ism down the drain without any sense of guilt or pride.

  9. Su-sieeemac - so happy that Sing is bringing about such re-birth in your life! We do take our bodies for granted, methinks! I am not the least surprised that you came up with a rainbow when describing your favorite color(s)!

  10. Thank you for visiting my blog so I could find yours. My how I like your attitude! And your penchant for naming. Sing and Song are such perfect names for new knees. I should call my current knees Crunch and Scrape! lol

  11. You always make me smile!! My mom always said she wanted us to inherit the good qualities from her and my dad and not the bad ones. I wish I'd asked more about what she considered her good ones, as I am pretty sure my ideas vary..... Anyway, I am sure your Mama would be so proud of you and I am too . So glad that Sing is playing along so well (I said "working" at first but it sounds as if you're having too much fun to use that word!). I thought it might be a problem having one working knee and not the other, but I'm glad I was wrong. Still it will be great to have Song also.

    1. Sing and I are learning how to forge forward with Song, who is now the “bad” knee. Sometimes the physical therapist has a lapse and is about to start working on Song rather than Sing. I’m glad I did the surgery despite the discomfort of recovery.

  12. It sounds like you're doing well with your new knee. Everyone I know with knee replacement have enjoyed a huge improvement in their life. I love Sing and Song! Perfect!
