The other day I was thinking about how there are quite a few songs about specific women, such as Michelle, Louise, and Clementine. That got me to wondering what songs do I know that are about particular men. It wasn't easy. I didn't want to Google the answer, so the Husband (My Guy) kindly helped me come up with this list.
- Johnny Angel
- The Boy from Ipanema
- Johnny B. Goode
- Wedding Bell Blues (Remember Bill?)
- When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again
- Go Down Moses
- Hit the Road Jack
- Rocky Raccoon
- Louie Louie
- Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
- Frere Jacques
- Shaft
- John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt
There sure are a lot of songs about particular John's. What's that all about? If I look up Shaft, will I find out his real name is John.
To check out other bloggers with lists of 13, head to Thursday 13.
P.S. John Shaft, by golly!
Fun list and some good songs there too! :)
ReplyDeleteFun songs. Hey Jude, Hey Leonardo, Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley, Hey Mickey, Enter Sandman, Desperado, Mister Roboto, Bobbie McGee.. I had to think a bit on those. I am sure there are many more. But I will say it is much easier to think of songs with girl names.
ReplyDeleteHow can I forget Bobby McGee. I like to sing that song whenever we pass by the exit to Freedom.
DeletePeggy Sue, Sherry, Alison, Eleanor Rigby, Gloria?
ReplyDeleteSherry Baby!
DeleteBad, Bad Leroy Brown! This was fun!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good one!
DeleteThat's a great idea for a list. I wonder how many one could come up with if we really put our heads together to find a list. Of course, I would have to Google, so congrats on doing it from pure memory.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a good one to throw out at the kids.
DeleteAlejandro, Ben, Joe Le Taxi, Donald Where's Your Troosers?, Charlie Brown, Frankie, Danny Boy, Hey Jude, Me and Bobby McGee, Daniel, Jumpin' Jack Flash, You Can Call Me Al, It's Harry I'm Plannin' To Marry, Tom Dooley, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer........I was brought up on music so could probably think of a lot more but I'd better stop at 16! lol
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you had fun with this, Eunice. :-) I think I heard "It's Harry I'm Plannin' to Marry" in an old movie recently.
DeleteA Boy Named Sue. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThat song is a hoot! Just learned that Shel Silverstein wrote it. :-)
DeleteI’ve heard a few of those
ReplyDeleteCool, Adam!
DeleteWonderful earworms that I don’t mind at all. So Fun. My first thought was A Boy Named Sue ... that and all my other s have been well covered by your more prompt readers, but I had just as much fun remembering.
ReplyDeleteOur generation has the best music. I suppose all generations think that about the songs of their youth.
DeleteJohn is such a common name so i can see how it was used often in songs . How about the gospel song "Michael Row Your Boat Ashore"? 'Hey, Joe" by Jimi Hendrix., 'Hit the Road, Jack" "jesses' Girl" or "Louie Louie"?
ReplyDeleteI was wracking my brain for a song about Joe, and here it is. Thanks, Pat. :-)
DeleteKris Kristofferson co-wrote Me and Bobby McGee, so when he sang it, Bobby was a girl! I noticed Jesse's Girl in the comment above mine and thought of something funny. My ex-husband came home and told me he'd heard a song he liked and he tried to sing it and got the words wrong. He sang "I wish that I was Jesse's girl." Oh, really? He wanted to be Jesse's girl? I told him it made no sense. As usual, he didn't listen to me, and hence, he is the X.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
See what Janis Joplin did. lol
DeleteThese are great songs! My mind has drawn a blank
ReplyDeleteThat's what happened to me when I started wondering.
