Something New Tried

"Let's make cards," I said, practically pulling the Husband down on the seat next to me. That's what happens when he follows me around a holiday festival that has free arts and crafts workshops.  I thought about telling him to go ahead, I'll catch up with him, but I remembered we were just talking about making Christmas cards this year.

Once he knew that the idea was to make a collage card, he enjoyed himself. Any remorse, I'm sure of sitting down at a table with colorful papers and cut-outs, was gone. This, below, is his card.

My card is the picture at the top of the post. Did the giraffe surprise you?

While we were admiring our cards, again, at home, the giraffe invited me to draw her. So, I did. Then, she asked to be colored. Fortunately for us, the watercolor pencils were on the table. Before I knew it, Juliana the Giraffe came to life. I wonder if she knows Ghandi the Giraffe.
Mosaic Monday, hosted by Angie of Letting Go of the Bay Leaf,  is where I'm hanging my hat today. Click here to check out the meme, Angie, and other participants.

  7. Don't think I could get Wayne to sit down with me to make a card, in fact would be lucky to get him to walk around a festival with me, We used to go to the Los Angeles County Fair every year (we lived within walking distance), but our stays were just long enough to eat dinner, walk through a few exhibit halls, eat a hand dipped ice cream bar, and walk home. But it was always fun. I grew up going to the fair with my parents. - Margy

  9. Juliana has such a wry expression on her face ... I would like to get to know her! Whimsy and wry...what’s not to like.... I want your husband’s card (especially the coffee/wine part of it) to hang in my kitchen.

    1. Whimsy and wry. I love that Sallie. Juliana the Giraffe was named after my grand-aunt who definitely had wry wit. Whimsy, too, but I don't think many of the relatives saw it.

  10. That is quite a cool and pretty card Susie, fantastic illustration and I love the coffee and wine quote. Okay, now you've given me two ear worms. Do you know how long it took me to get Bright Side Of Life Out Of My Head when I posted it, wait is this revenge?

  12. Su-sieeemac - I don't think my hubby would join in this activity - he would be more likely to go in search of a beer. I love your hubby's card, especially the quote about the coffee and wine! The giraffe does not surprise me in itself, but it does seem a little out of character to see it with the lovely woman … but, I can always count on your for a good surprise! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday, my friend!

    1. Thanks, Angie. The Husband focused in on the box with quotes. When he was done with his card, he looked up and noticed the other boxes of cut-outs and papers and pictures on the table. "I didn't look at those," said he, as he patiently waited for me to finish. I saw the giraffe at the last moment. :-)
