O is for Official

My theme for #23 Round of ABC Wednesday:
Signs & Such of San Benito County, California

Tuesday, November 6, 2018 is General Election Day, but the early voting period is already in progress.

In our county, if we don't want to wait to vote at our polling place on Election Day, we can mail in our filled-in ballots. We can also stop by the County Registrar of Voters office to vote, which may be open on the weekends. Or, if we prefer, we can place our completed ballots in the official ballot drop box over in Winn Alley, between the library and the old courthouse in Hollister.

So, there we go. With all these options, there's no reason for us not to vote in San Benito County. Well, we do need to be registered. The last day to register in California is Monday October 22, 2018. It can be done online. How convenient is that?

  1. We live in BC now but are allowed to vote in the States in the last place we lived. We get our ballots in the mail. This time we will take them with us down to Bellingham, WA, and drop them in an official ballot drop box like the one in your picture. - Margy

  3. They also ask you if you want to update your registration when you renew your driver's licence (if you have to go to the DMV). And did you know you can check to make sure your registration is current? There's a website.

  6. Your Senator Kamala Harris will be nearby in my area on Friday to campaign for a guy running my congress district. Though he probably has no chance of winning. I have to work, so I won't even have the chance to meet her. I really admire her, she's super smart, very strong, and I think she's gorgeous.

My two senators are Trump puppets. It's a travesty.

    1. Adam, the Husband and I are sorry to hear about your senators. May more people continue to see the light and kick them out of office. We agree with you about Sen. Harris. :-)

  10. Added to Gattina's comment . . . voting is compulsory in Australia, so on average about 96-98% (last time I checked) of eligible voters do vote . . . and it's a proportional voting system as well, which also makes a huge difference.

When I first moved here (to Canada) I was horrified at the low voter turnouts, and gave short shrift to anyone who complained about the 'government' and yet had chosen NOT to vote ... still am, and still do. :)

    1. I believe the same thing: No vote, no complaints. If only there was a way to get voters to make a decision based on their conclusions rather than follow a party line or vote according to who their friends or family like.
