Sounds of a Sunday Afternoon.

I can hear the roar of the motorcycles in the near distance. Many of them are more than likely tourists and friends of local bikers who have come for the annual bikers' blessing held at the Catholic church earlier this afternoon.  Unless things have changed, the bikers take turns riding a short path on the church's parking lot. Either at the beginning or the end of the path (I can't recall), a priest sprinkles holy water on them as they pass by him.

Competing with the motorcycles' engines and the whistling of the Spring wind is the every-so-often sound of children shouting and screaming. There are probably Little League baseball games happening at the nearby park.

And while you're imagining it all, throw in the call from an occasional dog and crow.

Bwark, bwark.
Roooooooar. Cawwww, cawwwwwww. Yaaaaay! Wwwwwwwwwwwwind.

Listen, an airplane—a single-engine craft, I believe—is flying over the house. That silenced everything else, for now.

I'm linking up with All Seasons, a weekly meme hosted by Jesh at Artworks from Jesh St.G. Click here to check out Jesh and her meme. For the participants list, click here. Thanks, Jesh!

  1. I like your succulents in the coffee cups! Very pretty.
When I was out on my porch earlier this afternoon, I heard two owls hooting back and forth to each other.

    1. Thanks. Those were a couple of the Mama's favorite cups. After she passed away, I turned them into planters. Hooot, Hooot.

  2. There are definitely days when I'd change my sounds for yours happily. Some days are quiet, but then like today we have partying neighbors who drink while they play cornhole, surely the noisiest game ever invented. Plunk plunk plunk.
We decided to go do some errands. I think they were partying because the season is almost over and they are leaving soon... so we'll have quiet soon.

    1. I know what's like to have noisy neighbors. One of ours went through an almost weekly party stage. Their backyard borders our front, so all of their loud music, talk, and laughter streamed into our house. It didn't matter if our windows and doors were closed. I'm very thankful that's over. After a point, I wasn't one to be sweet about it at all.

    1. A composer might've been quite inspired by what I heard this afternoon. :-)

  4. Like your little container garden and imagining I'm hearing your neighborhood. Most of the time my neighborhood is quiet. Sometimes children playing. Sometimes a car with a louds radio.

    1. I can't stand the sound of extra-loud base emitting from a car radio. Boom! Boom! Boom! Where's the musicality in that.

  5. One of my favorite sounds is that of kids playing outside ... we just don't hear it as much as we used to, which is sad. We are hearing a lot of birds twittering - amazing how quickly it has changed in the last couple of weeks - they know that Spring is here.

    1. Twitter, twitter. It used to be we could hear the school announcements at the elementary school a couple blocks away. Over the loudspeaker, we heard the principal greet the students, tell them what's happening that day, offer a punny riddle, then give the microphone over to a kid who would lead the school in the pledge of allegiance.

  6. Oh, see my comment from yesterday did not come through - I remember commenting on the biker's being blessed! I think they need it, because when they are in an accident, they usually end up with metal plates in their body! Thanks for adding these interesting facts and lovely mugs for your plants!
Yes, so true (your comment about hubby), we are blessed when we have an attentive spouse! And even more when they are good with their hands and able to make things:) Have a beautiful week, Susie!

    1. I remember when California made it mandatory that bikers wear helmets while driving. Oh, did many bikers, including the First Husband, disliked that. Not so much about the safety part, but government infringing on their right to decide whether to wear a helmet or not.

  7. Our quiet days tend to be seasonal. As soon as it warms up all the holiday cottages fill up and it's an almost endless parade from their houses down to the lake and back again ... accompanied by evening parties and BBQ's ... sometimes it's quite cheery to listen to and sometimes, not so much. :)

    1. I've often wondered what it would be like to live in a place that has seasonal occupants. In the movies and books, it sounds like fun. I would probably be that quirky old lady at the end of the road.

  8. Yes, I can hear it all. Spring-like sounds. I guess the bikers need the blessings :)
