Molly the Cat's Satisfying and Satisfactory Sunday Morning

Molly has asked that I tell you about her satisfying and satisfactory Sunday morning, and before breakfast, too.

Molly and I were deadheading daisies in the front yard. Molly is the supervisor, in case you're wondering. About 20 minutes into clipping soggy dried daisy heads (we had rain—yay!) I glanced up to see Molly sitting with her body tensely taut and intently watching the flamingo. From my angle, Molly and the faded artificial bird seemed to be in a stare down.

Five minutes later, I noticed that Molly had moved halfway closer to Albert. That's the flamingo's name I've decided.

Three minutes ticked by: Molly was in stealth hunter's mode. She quickly and quietly tiptoed around me and crept into the bushes to (no doubt) ambush Albert from behind.

I wonder who was surprised more—Albert or Molly.

That was not the end to Molly satisfactory morning adventure. No m'ams and sirs.

Ten minutes later, I was planting tiny daisy branches (in hopes they'll grow) beneath the tree when a yowl broke through my zen. Racing down the side cement path was a fat orange tabby with Molly a couple feet behind her. Whooooooooooosh!

Just as Molly rounded the corner, off the property, I shouted in what I hoped was a better-listen-to-me voice, "MOLLY!" With my knees which the doctors say no longer have cartilage, I wouldn't have been able to. . .you get the picture.

I couldn't believe it: The girl stopped in mid-flight. She literally screeched to a halt with sound effects, eeeeeeeeeerrk. She locked eyes with me, then peered down the sidewalk. It's almost like she shrugged and muttered, "Not worth it."

She walked up the cement path like a triumphant little lion, stopping a few feet where she turned and stared at the corner, making sure that four-footed prowler dared not return. Once she was content, she sauntered back to Albert where she sniffed the daisies next to him.

Yup, our Molly the Lion had a rather satisfying and satisfactory morning.

    1. She certainly is. She stood guard this morning, too, and chased a smaller orange kitty from under the car. She wouldn't go inside until I did. Sweet Molly!

  2. Apparently Molly determined that the fat orange tabby was too easy to catch!

    1. I don't know what she'd do if she caught up to it. Or, any other cat for that matter. She chased a smaller orange one from under the car this morning, but stopped at the fence.

  3. I just love cats. I love dogs as well but I am a cat person.

    1. The Husband and I are Molly the Cat fans. Before her, we had no idea what it was like to live with a cat. She's teaching us well.

  4. Molly stopped from the sound of your voice - that is amazing. Most cats I've known continue to do what they want. Glad Miss Lion Molly had such a satisfactory morning.

    1. I was thoroughly impressed, too. When she's in the backyard, she generally comes in when we tell her. She's so cute the way she seems to complain about coming in as she makes her way towards the house.

  5. Whoa girl, your knees might be going, but your voice is in great shape if you could stop that lion in midchase! I am impressed. (Actually I suspect Molly knows where her tuna fish comes from.) I'm not too worried about the intruder cat, which I'm sure learned it's lesson, but I'm a little afraid for poor old Albert.

    1. Molly was giving Albert the eye this morning, as if saying "I own you, don't you forget it." She chased away a smaller orange cat from under the car this morning. It jumped over a low fence, which I was afraid Molly would jump, but she stopped right at the fence and looked at me quite satisfied, a Guard Cat, she is.

  6. Wow, there is definitely a writer in you, Susie! Can't help but think: children's books! You took me in so much with your story that now I've had to think hard which photo you linked.
If your knees don't have cartilage, you want to consider raised plant beds (you can make those yourself -or your hubby), so you don't have to bend so much! (it's not cheating - it's just higher up). Thank you so much for sharing this with All Seasons!

    1. Awesome, Jeannette. My goal is to become a limber, but not lost, storyteller. Raised beds are perfect for a vegetable garden. This year, I'm going to try a few containers on the patio because there's ooo much shade from the fruit trees in the yard.
