"How are you doing?" asked the mailman, as he stuck a bunch of letters and magazines in our mailbox.
"Happy now that I'm playing out here," I said sitting on my green stool in the middle of the yard, my hands muddy from pulling weeds and sticking plants into the damp soil.
Who would've thunk that gardening has become one way for me to find zen? Definitely not me.

I like tea cups in the flower bed, great idea!
ReplyDeleteI thought about putting succulents in the teacups, but then they would get all soggy when it rains. Hmmm, I could drill holes in the cups. Hmmm.
DeleteYou did that today? I can't imagine. But sure, sticking your hands in soil is incredibly zen but a lot of work and hard on the knees. Every once in a while I'll set up large pots on the balcony so the only standing I need to do is in the initial planting and watering. I look forward to seeing the results, the garden looks fun and lively.
ReplyDeleteI was out there on Friday and Saturday. My knees are shot, so I either bend from the waist or sit on my little green stool. So far it works.
DeleteI absolutely love your whimsical and more whimsical gardens. Makes me realize what all I'm missing. I know you'll show us pictures of the wildflower garden as it progresses. Also: I have seen Jade trees in yards here in Florida and I'm still always in awe when I see them and other kinds that we babied along as house plants just growing to beat the band outdoors!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sallie. I'm the opposite, I think it's strange to see jade trees indoors, but they are great house plants I'm told. I ought to give it a try. There are jades galore in both front and back.

DeleteI also enjoy getting my hands dirty, but it will be a few months before the snow lets me. I admire your willingness to plant something with little to no roots and see what happens! The wildflower patch will be a delightful surprise - can't wait to see future photos.
ReplyDeleteWe've had a mild winter, which is good for gardening, but may mean water rationing again in the summer. I'm trying to put in stuff that doesn't need much water.
