Lately my hands have been itchy to draw. The other evening it began with the desire to draw a sunflower. Instead of drawing an imaginary one, I got off the couch and went and plucked a wilted sunflower from a two-week bouquet in the kitchen. I checked out the flower's structure, counted its petals, and took a good long hard look at it.
I sketched a sunflower head with 32 petals (more or less, I lost count in the 20s), shaded in the petals with colored pencils, didn't like the result, and went searching for the crayons. Before I knew it the sunflower got a stem and leaves. . .and a setting!
As far as I'm concerned, you couldn't go wrong making a picture of a sunflower -- pretty much my favorite flower. And your sweet picture would make anyone smile!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, kindly, Sallie. There's still one sunflower standing tall in the yard. I'm waiting to see if the tiny blooms in its "armpits" will burst forth.
DeleteThat's a happy picture Susie, it's lovely :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Eunice. I love how the picture evolved.

DeleteCheerful , that is what a sunflower reminds me of! You did a terrific job and I wish I had such talent. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think I could draw until well today. So, you don't know, it may be inside you, too.
DeleteThis is so pretty with rich colours and a brightness that puts a smile on my face. Glad you are drawing so much
ReplyDeleteCool! Last night I started cutting up old Christmas cards that we've received in the past. The Husband and I have big plans to create cards for this year. Your cardmaking, Birgit, has inspired me to move on this idea.
