Flowers Now and To Come

This week has been one of delight when it comes to flowers.

One of the Mama's orchids has a blossom. I only noticed the flower over the past weekend. I truly was going la, la, la when I've been watering the orchid pots. Oh well, makes for a nice surprise. Aren't the orchid's colors gorgeous? The Husband's bicycle has almost the same color of green.

Sigh. I miss pedaling around on Tilda-Hilda, my sweet pink cruiser.

The ornamental pear tree is in full bloom. This is the second year that the tree's branches are in synch with their flowers. Until last year, it could've been October, December, March, June, or whenever a branch felt like showing off its blooms. I'm happy with whatever it wants to do.

On Valentine's Day, I sowed a large packet full of seeds that when in bloom will attract butterflies and hummingbirds. I threw the seeds in that old drawer (in the photo) and in that space in front of it. I put branches and twigs on top of the ground to keep birds and cats out. A trick I learned from the Mama.

So, if all goes well, 26 days from now, the drawer and ground will be crowded with asters, black-eyed Susans, milkweed, California poppies, echinacea, scarlet sage, wallflower, and a few other flowers.  Knock on wood.

  2. Hi Su---sie,
I love orchids, my favourite indoor potted plant, I was given two for my birthday around this time last year and they died off but have grown some rich green leaves so I'm hoping some buds will appear soon. Also, as my birthday looms yet again, I have told the girls when asked, I would like some more plants....... I mean, what do you buy a girl who has everything?
The house is heaving with furniture and nick nacks, my wardrobe is heaving with clothes that I don't have time nor, the inclination to wear.
I have enough books to open a library etc etc.
So, a potted, pretty orchid, would be most acceptable.
I do hope you can get your joints fixed soon, so that you can ride 'Tilda Hilda' again, you really must miss all your little jaunts.
Best wishes and hugs to you, the husband and the Molly Cat,
    from,
    Di,
    ABCW team.

    1. Di, you can never have enough plants, especially houseplants. I would love to turn the inside of our home into a jungle. The water though would be a bother.

I still haven't gone back to the specialist. Have a few more things to put into place before I can be a patient. My body is getting adapted to my knee malfunctions so that's good.
      Hugs to you.

  3. The orchid blossom is beautiful, what lovely colours. I think the photo itself is gorgeous, it would look stunning blown up as a print and hung on a plain wall :)

    1. Thanks, Eunice. I was thinking about blowing it up, too. My favorite part is the lighting on the buds.

  4. I sometimes think orchids took a turn on the evolutionary ladder and became plants rather than insects. :D

    1. They seem to do best when I ignore them. The only thing I do is place them all where I can see them.

    1. You've sweet, Birgit. I'm impressed that news about Hollister has reached Canada. We had heavy gusts of wind come through early Friday morning. Very scary. The tree was dancing so much, I went out and sawed off the branch on the left side of the photo. I was afraid it would pull the whole tree down. The tree seems happier right now. We're supposed to get more heavy winds tonight/tomorrow a.m.

    1. I'm sure it's nicer. I wonder if the hall holding he orchid show would've felt tropical warm and humid.

    1. Lots and lots of rain. Then northern part of our county had flooded during the last 3 storms. This last storm also had heavy gusts of wind. Our back fence tumbled down.
