"The surgeon will make an incision in my chest."
"Do you think it will be an X?" I asked.
The Husband laughed. I think he laughed. I'll say he laughed. I want him to have laughed.
Tomorrow morning, a surgeon will make an incision in the Husband's chest and install a pacemaker.
Yup.
A pacemaker.
The results of the remote heart-monitor the Husband wore for two weeks showed that every now and then his heart flat-lines for several seconds. Not good at all.
Thank goodness this problem was caught now rather than much later and that there is a ready solution. And, thank goodness we have a proactive doctor who cares for his patients and is willing to make insurance companies authorize things immediately.
The Husband is ready as ready can be for this procedure. I cut his hair and trimmed his beard so the surgeon and his team wouldn't get annoyed at all that hair, especially his beard. How much hair? It filled the vacuum cleaner's canister twice!
The Husband is already considering names for his new friend-to-be. "What do you think of Gerry?" he asked. He hummed Ferry Cross the Mersey.
I love the Husband.
June 23, 2016 Update
The Husband is home with his new electronic friend. Whooo-hoooo!
Medical technology is amazing. He went in at 10:00 a.m. and by 2:00 p.m. a nurse was wheeling him to our car. The Husband looks great. He already requested and ate ice cream. Now he's laying on the couch, catching up with Facebook on the iPad. Ha!
Thank you, one and all, for your prayers, positive thoughts, and good vibrations. You all helped make this adventure bearable. I love you all.

DeletePacemaker, wow. Being cut open is scary. Hope it goes well. I'm trying to listen to my body more and eat healthier. It's an ongoing thing. However, one cool thing - in July the national GMO labeling will go into effect unless the evil people in Congress manage to stop it - yet again. I'm very excited. Even if I have to use a smartphone to scan QR codes to find out if it's GMO or not, I can tell my husband, "No we're not buying that mayonnaise cause it's GMO."

DeleteOh wow...he went from hippie to yuppie or maybe zippie:) I'm glad they caught this and that he will have this done as long as the pacemaker doesn't beat to their songs because you never know what Jerry may do when he hears a song. Jimmy Stewart had to have one put in back either in the 70's or early 80's and he lived a long time after. Your hubby will do fine because your mama will make sure that all goes well. She is the angel by both your shoulders

I know Gerry well he lives not far from us..Hope all goes well with The Husband's procedure...Shame to cut off his lovely curls but then he'll feel cooler in the warmer months...Nice looking chap too...He looks full of fun...I can see him riding around on a Harley Davidson with a guitar slung over his back..Give him my best wishes for his op,

ReplyDeleteYou know how you get a head rush when you suddenly stand up? That's what he was feeling. He'd been having them now and then for quite a while. A few weeks ago, I happened to look over when he was having one while we were stopped at a red light. He was driving. He had three more within 2 hours, which was unusual, so I kinda bullied him to see the doctor right then. As the Mama said, I'm a "mean" one. :-)

DeleteMaybe I'm confused - did you post this for ABC Wed. last week? (since it was the turn for X). You must have been cutting for a while on hubby's hair/beard! But now it's done:) I have only heard good stories about pace makers, so... he probably adjusts well to it:)
ReplyDeleteYup, ABC Wednesday. Can't remember when I started to cut the Husband's hair. Clip, clip. I can't go wrong with a buzz cut. It also helps that should I ever go wrong, the Husband would simply say, "It grows back."
