Nearly to the Top

Whooooooooooooooooo-hooooooooooooooooo!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwessommmmmmmmmmme! Awesome, awesome, awwwwwwwwwesomme!

Everyone in the valley below should have heard me as I coasted down the hill this morning. Whooooo-hoooooo!

Once a week for the past four weeks, I have been pedaling up Cienega Road, going further each time. I have yet to make it to the very top, but after today, I know that one day I shall. I managed to pedal about three-quarters up what I thought was the first incline, only to look up and see it was one long continuous incline.

When it got too steep, I got off Tilda-Hilda (I think she may be partial to Tildy-Hildy) and walked her up to my first goalpost. Once there, I decided to walk a little further. Why not? I thought, I'm here. When it no longer seemed steep that I would fall trying to engage the pedals, I hopped on the pink cruiser and pedaled up the hill for a couple more yards. But, instead of turning around, I chose to walk Tilda-Hilda a few more yards to that fence post in the photo.

What a glorious ride down it was. Did I say that already?

"It looks like that's the top," the Husband said when he saw the photo. "From there, the road heads down into that other valley."

Trés awesome, if it is! Next week, Tilda-Hilda and I are going to the top.

Whooooooooooooo-hooooooooooooo!

I'm hooking up at Jenny Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday. Come along with me and visit other N posts in the blogosphere.

  2. You certainly are an ambitious climber. Pedaling is tougher than walking. You have my utmost respect.

    1. Thank you, Pam. Ambitious is not an adjective I would've thought for myself. Perhaps it's the other side of stubborn. At one point, I did think walking the Tilda-Hilda up the slope is probably quicker than pushing those pedals down slowly one at a time.

  3. Suzie,

Oh my! I can see why you related to my running post. You like a challenge, just like me! I can imagine your smile as you and Tildy-Hildy whizz back down that hill. I bet that extra bit of climbing was worth the effort!.

Unfortunately for me, I begin my run at the top of a hill so I have to face the climb back up at the end. Sometimes I am tempted to run too far down and then I hardly make it back up. The hill is endless. It goes on and on, getting steeper and steeper... Every week I try to run just a little bit further down.

Fabulous story, Suzie. I really enjoyed it!

    1. Sue, you've described on days when I have gone too far on the bike. I'm crouched over the handlebar essentially willing myself to pedal forth. It's a good think we don't have a truck or a station wagon, I'd probably call the Husband to come fetch me on those days.

  4. My three-wheeler is so heavy that I would probably drop over before I got even half-way! Good for you!!!

    1. Ah, but you would have got up the hill nearly halfway! And on a 3-wheeler, too.

  5. The rush going down the hill is so worth the struggle to get up it. Well done! :)

  10. You don't give up, do you. Never, never. And I also know that feeling,..... in fact I think that is what makes a survivor. It's like cream that rises to the top and we know cream is the best part. Love ya, girl.

  11. That's awesome! You've set a goal and you're achieving it gradually. The ride down is the best reward!
