How's the Mama?

The Mama, as some of you dear readers know, is in her nineties. The tiny, fragile, slow-stepping Mama is doing well, thank you very much for asking. She's as fit and magnificent as the flowers and vegetables that she grows. The only medication she takes is for her thyroid. I can only hope that I haven't screwed up the genes she gave me too awful much.

This morning, I found a poem that I wrote about the Mama two years ago when she was rushed to the hospital. The Mama is amazing.

The Sleeping Mama
Slipped into her ER room.
She was fast asleep,
Hooked up to the IV, heart monitor, and oxygen.

In one moment,
she could not move
no matter how hard she tried.
And, she tried, and kept trying, to stand up.

"Walking pneumonia," the doctor said.
"Dehydration."

What did she say?
"This is going to cost me a lot."

  1. Leave it to the Mama to think of that. I reallyi believe that people who garden and love the soil, live longer and enjoy good health. Maybe it's their contact with nature that rejuvenates them.

    1. Yes, and all that newly produced oxygen, especially when all the trees and vines are out, that she breathes out there. The Mama has lead a rather tough and sad life. Her gardening truly keeps her in perspective, I think.

  3. How great that your mom is still so well and can create such a beautiful garden and care for it. This must help her in so many ways. The best is her mind is well and her body is better. Lovely poem

    1. Thanks, Birgit. She's out there right now as I write. She's got her herself a nice routine for now. First thing after breakfast and then again about a couple of hours before dinner.

    1. She most definitely is! A few years ago, I realized that she's more into the process than the results. She's a mad horticulturist. :-)

    1. Sure you can, Sue. But, please don't ask me how. I really don't know. I used to write poems a lot long, long ago. Now a days, they pop out once in a while, probably when I allow myself.
