A Bit of a Wander

Lately, it's like pulling teeth to get me to go beyond the mailbox. Some of my reticence is not wanting to catch any virus out there in the public. Some, not wanting to put on a bra and shoes. A little, the annoyance of possibly feeling a whiff of fear and hostility of someone judging me or others around me as not being allowed to exist among them. Yes, there is that. A bit, the pain of my so-called arthritic knees, which I prefer to describe as having no more cartilage. But, mostly, I haven't felt the need or urge to go out.

Yesterday afternoon, I didn't talk myself out of going out because we needed to fill up the pantry and refrigerator again. If I'm going to cook more, then I need ingredients to create decent meals. So off to the organic farm stand and the grocery store we went, along with a stop for a couple of beer growlers from Brewery Twenty-Five in San Juan Bautista. I'll write more about them another day.

Our stroll from the car to the beer place was two short blocks, but, gosh, oh gee, the wonder the camera discovered. I really need to talk myself into going out more.

I'm linking up with All Seasons, a weekly meme hosted by Jesh at Artworks from Jesh St.G. Click here to check out Jesh and her meme. For the participants list, click here. Thanks, Jesh!

  1. I take spells when I want to go out and do something every day ... then I'll go through a while when I just want to stay home and not see anybody at all (well, you know, except for that guy who lives here).....

You did find some wonders -- thanks for sharing them. Good to have a Farmer's Market near by -- fresh stuff makes cooking and eating better!

    1. Not a farmer's market (wish we did have one year-round) but a produce stand at a nearby organic farm, which is fortunate for us that they're willing to sell to the public on Saturdays. It always feels good to drive the backroads to get there. I really need to make more an effort to go beyond the mailbox. It's good for me, so I say.

  2. Great features on your walk to do groceries! Love the bell on the horse shoe in your last one the most (I can hear the bell ringing "dinner is ready!")
All joking aside, forgot to put in my post that this week Friday is another WEEKEND JOURNAL PAGE for an art project. Can't wait to see with what your mind comes up with:) Have a great week!

    1. That's my favorite catch. The Husband didn't even know I had stopped to take a photo. I think he was excited about the beer he was gently carrying to the car.

  3. A big treat for me is to stay home all day in my sweats, no make-up. I can relate to all you say! I'm still working, so most days I have no choice, but there's nothing like relaxing at home. The pink building (the brewery?) looks delightful. And by the way, I doubt people are judging you. A smile from you will probably brighten their day!

    1. The pink building is a long-time restaurant, which has changed ownership so still closed. Yup, smiles do make the difference, and I usually do initiate them. Some days are tougher.

  4. We are on the same page, Susie. I'm glad you did venture out because you captured some interesting and pretty photos. I have been playing hide and seek with the flu but ventured out to a great fitness center for a month and today is the last day. I'll be depending on the camera to get these sore knees out and about. I know what you mean about the bra and shoes, lol.
Actually putting on shoes is one of my exercises cuz that right leg isn't bending the way it should. One thing I love about using the warm water or lap pool is that you can go there in any state cuz you're going to hit the shower before going in anyway.
I think we all feel and encounter that people suck experience but there are just as many and probably more who don't, we just remember the bad times more acutely.
    Hang in there, kiddo.

    1. Thanks, Jeanna, for the pep talk. January was an emotionally low month for me. Taking photos does help me get out of my funk. The Husband had the flu last month. It was possible that I was circulating the symptoms through my body without them getting full blown. That I'm happy about, if that's the case. :-)

  6. I so hate wearing a bra and it's the first thing I whip off after my sweater. I so love being at home and, this weekend, I didn't travel anywhere! I just didn't feel like it after everything. I know I will get out and hope to this coming weekend even if it is for 15 min. You have the pain to contend with plus the "fear" that people are looking at you when you can't walk and do things like the people all around. I get that part but if you can, put that dang bra on and walk for a certain spell to a place you enjoy because once we are out, we do feel better. pain is so inhibiting. I love your 2 pictures with that old truck and then the horseshoe bell on the fence-great shot! I can't wait for more pictures and more creations by you:)

    1. Hmmm, I haven't thought about people staring at the way I walk. That actually cracks me up, thank you very much. I'm sure I am an odd sight when I get out of the car or when I stand up from sitting. My knees won't do anything for a very long moment and then it takes a minute before I can walk without too much pain. Sheesh! Now I get what the Mama may have been feeling when she stood up from the couch. Poor woman. But, okay, I will do better about putting on the bra and go out for a bit. That's good medicine, Doc.

    2. hahaha. When I saw the doctor the other day, I went without a bra since I would have to take it off anyway. Turned out I didn't need to. haha

  7. Sometimes I know there are bits of the world that suck and I want absolutely nothing to do with any of it, and sometimes I know there are bits of the world that suck and I want to engage with the rest of it. It depends on the day ... and sometimes we run out of milk and we have to go out!

  8. "not wanting to put on a bra and shoes" - Ha ha ha! Yes, we all have those days. You know, there are these companies that will deliver groceries for you, if you REALLY don't want to go out!

    1. If the stores weren't nearby (less than a mile), I would. But, I'd definitely use the service when both of us are too sick for the world.
